The Tesla Model Y has established itself not just as a popular electric car, but as one of the best-selling vehicles globally. As we move into 2026, competitors from Hyundai, Ford, and Chevrolet have closed the gap, offering longer ranges and bold styling. To see if the Model Y still holds its crown, we spent a week testing the Long Range AWD model on daily commutes and highway road trips.

Driving Dynamics and Battery Efficiency

Equipped with dual electric motors, the Long Range AWD model accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds. The power delivery is instantaneous, making merging and passing effortless. In terms of efficiency, our test car averaged 3.4 miles per kWh, which translates to a real-world range of approximately 290 miles in mixed driving conditions—very close to the official EPA estimate of 308 miles.

Interior Space and Tech Integration

The cabin design remains ultra-minimalist. The panoramic glass roof creates an airy, open feel, and passenger legroom is excellent in both rows. The center 15-inch display controls nearly every aspect of the vehicle. While the UI is incredibly smooth and intuitive, we still wish for a physical instrument cluster or a head-up display to keep speed information directly in the driver's line of sight.
